Cal Poly stewards is a growing collection of art, with significant representation through painting, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. A defining feature of our campus is the budding Public Art program, with murals, sculptures, and installations to be discovered throughout. This collection is under the care of Kennedy Library staff and serves as an invaluable resource for teaching and research across disciplines.
Acquisition Proposals
With an emphasis on Public Art, campus departments are invited to propose acquisitions of artwork to be installed and displayed in spaces available for public viewing. Examples of past acquisitions include Generosity (2022) by Oscar Pearson, a three-panel mural installed on the side of the Campus Market and Sphere (2013) by Ivan McLean, 1 of 3 steel sculptures installed on the plaza of the Performing Arts Center. Before drafting a proposal, please review the Campus Administrative Policy 180: University Art Acquisition and Oversight Policy to learn about the prerequisites of this process. Questions can be directed to Suzie Smith, Curator for Kennedy Library: ssmit316@calpoly.edu.
